Tell me more about Liberal Education requirements...

To graduate from the University, a student must fulfill a set of liberal education (i.e.,  general education) requirements. Courses taken at other institutions may often be used to fulfill these requirements. The U of M's Office of Admissions is responsible for determining how specific courses at transfer institutions will fulfill U of M Liberal Education (LE) requirements.

Previous degrees and the MnTC

Petition Process for Liberal Education and Writing Intensive Requirements

Transfer courses are reviewed for Liberal Education requirements according to the criteria established by the U of M Council on Liberal Education.

If you believe after reviewing the criteria for courses that are identified as fulfilling Liberal Education requirements that one or more of your transfer courses has been overlooked or identified incorrectly, you may download Petition Instructions and submit a Petition for LE and Writing-Intensive Requirements. Petitions should be submitted to the Office of Admissions and should only be submitted by students who have already been accepted to the U of M -Twin Cities and have had courses reviewed by the Office of Admissions.
