Web Resources for Transfer Courses

Looking through College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Transfer Course Guides is the only way to tell which courses have been previously evaluated by CLA departments for transfer to specific majors/minors. Keep in mind that most departments require that half of your upper division (3xxx-5xxx level) major courses be completed through coursework from the UMN-Twin Cities campus.

Non-CLA Resources

There are two non-CLA resources that provide specific information on course equivalents.

The Minnesota Course Applicability System (MnCAS) lists the Liberal Education requirements that transfer courses will fulfill at the U of M-TC as well as gives equivalents for select transfer courses. Many courses from local community colleges have been evaluated by U of M departments and in many cases course equivalents have been determined. Equivalent means a specific number has been assigned to a course, for example, Psyc 1110 at MCTC is equivalent to Psy 1001 at UMN-TC.

The easiest way to navigate the MnCAS site is to click on "Guest login" and "Course equivalencies." Creating an account in MNCAS will allow you to keep a list of courses you have taken. To create an account, click on the "create account" button and follow appropriate instructions.

The Institute of Technology (IT) Course Equivalency site lists science and math courses and how they will transfer to the U of M-TC. The site will not inform as to which Liberal Education requirements these courses will fulfill. As related to CLA majors, this site is most useful for students majoring in science and math or those completing pre-health science coursework. Students who need to complete a certain level of math coursework, such as for the Economics major, might also find this site useful.
